Problem Statement
If you’re not technically inclined, you can still try to get ChatGPT to emulate your writing style by using prompts in a strategic manner. While this won’t be as precise as fine-tuning on a dataset of your writing, it can still produce interesting results. Here’s how you can approach it:
Clarify Your Style:
- Start by specifying characteristics of your writing style. For instance:
- “I tend to use short and concise sentences.”
- “I like to add humor in my writing.”
- “I always use British spelling.”
- “I often start my sentences with questions.”
Provide Examples:
i Give a few sample sentences or short paragraphs that are typical of your writing. This helps set a context. For example:
- “For example, when I talk about food, I might say something like: ‘Ever tried a chocolate frog? It’s not what you’d expect. Quite the hoppy delight, if you ask me.’”
Set the Tone with Prompts:
When asking questions, try to phrase them in your typical style, which will guide the model’s responses.
Iterate and Refine: You might not get the exact style you want in the first go. Feel free to give feedback on the generated content and ask again. For instance: “That was close, but can you make it a bit more humorous?”
Ask for Iterations: Sometimes, you can ask the model to generate multiple versions based on a prompt. This can help you choose the one closest to your style.
Practice: The more you interact and guide the model, the better it will get at generating content that feels more “like you”.
Here’s a sample interaction:
You: “I want you to write like me. I usually write in a playful tone, use British spelling, and I often pose rhetorical questions. For example: ‘Ever wondered why biscuits in the UK aren’t just cookies? It’s a delightful mystery, isn’t it?’ Now, can you write a paragraph about the weather in London in my style?”
